  • Update on Electronic Death Pronouncement Process
January 11, 2024

The Department of Public Health, Registry of Vital Records and Statistics (RVRS) will be replacing the Vitals Information Partnership (VIP) Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS) with a new, user- and mobile-friendly system, the Massachusetts Vital Records Information Collaborative (MAVRIC), for the processing of all vital events. MAVRIC will be the state supported system to complete the medical death certification process. The MAVRIC launch is expected to take place in April 2024.

To access and use MAVRIC, RN, NP and PA pronouncers must enroll in TRAIN Massachusetts an online e-learning platform. All training for pronouncers on how to access and use MAVRIC will be available on TRAIN in February 2024.

To enroll in TRAIN Massachusetts, please email the TRAIN help desk at DPH-TrainHelp@mass.gov and provide your name, title, and organization name.

Once enrolled you can log in 24/7 to access:

  1. Quick start guides
  2. Demonstration and supplementary videos
  3. Training site to practice
  4. TRAIN FAQ

Access to TRAIN also enables your admission to the MAVRIC training program when it becomes available in February 2024 where you will register for role-specific webinars with recorded demos and live Q&As.

To learn more about MAVRIC, please see the FAQ and guidance at MAVRIC: Massachusetts Vital Records Information Collaborative | Mass.gov

To receive updated information through our e-bulletin or if you have questions, please email RVRSCommunications@mass.gov.
